For a brief moment, the idea of Stephen Curry and LeBron James sharing the same NBA court as teammates seemed possible. After years of battling in the NBA Finals and later winning Olympic gold together with Team USA, many believed Golden State had a legitimate shot at bringing James to the Bay Area.

Instead, LeBron chose Philadelphia.

Now, Curry and the Warriors are turning their attention to the challenge ahead.

Speaking about the offseason, Curry admitted there was excitement surrounding the possibility of teaming up with James, but he also knows that speculation doesn't win basketball games.

The Florida Rebels arrived at Peach Jam believing they had a championship-caliber team. They left North Augusta with the trophy to prove it.

Florida defeated Drive Nation to capture its first Nike EYBL Peach Jam 17U championship, closing out one of the most impressive tournament runs in recent memory. At the center of it all was Class of 2027 point guard Cayden Daughtry, who put together one of the greatest individual performances in Peach Jam history.

Daughtry was named Peach Jam Tournament MVP after averaging 32.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals over eight games. His production came with remarkable efficiency, as he shot 63% from two-point range, 49% from three and 91% from the free-throw line while leading the Rebels to the championship.

He delivered his signature performance in the title game, finishing with 33 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead Florida past Drive Nation. Throughout the week, Daughtry consistently elevated his play in the biggest moments, showing the poise, confidence and leadership of a veteran despite being just a rising junior.

One of the defining moments of the tournament came during pool play, when Daughtry erupted for 43 points in a triple-overtime thriller against the NY Rens. Although Florida lost that game by a single point, Daughtry's performance set a new Peach Jam single-game scoring record and became one of the tournament's unforgettable highlights.

Florida's championship wasn't built on one player alone. The University of Michigan will soon begin a new chapter in its athletic department.

Athletic director Warde Manuel announced Monday that he will step down at the end of the 2026 calendar year, ending an 11-year run that featured championship success but also increasing scrutiny over the department's leadership. Manuel will remain in his role through December while assisting University President Domenico Grasso with implementing recommendations from an independent review of the athletic department.

A former Michigan football player and team captain, Manuel returned to Ann Arbor in 2016 after serving as athletic director at Buffalo and UConn. During his tenure, the Wolverines captured national championships in football, men's basketball, men's gymnastics and women's gymnastics while remaining one of the nation's premier athletic programs.

The announcement follows the completion of an independent culture review conducted by the law firm Jenner & Block. While the review praised Manuel's commitment to student-athletes, it concluded that weaknesses in accountability, oversight and reporting contributed to an environment where allegations of employee misconduct were not always addressed promptly or consistently.

In a statement, Manuel said he is proud of what Michigan Athletics accomplished during his time as athletic director and expressed appreciation for the coaches, staff and student-athletes he worked alongside. He also said he looks forward to helping the university implement the review's recommendations before his departure.

Michigan has already launched a national search for its next athletic director. The position will be one of the most prominent in college athletics, overseeing one of the country's most successful and visible athletic departments as it navigates an evolving era of college sports.

Yaxel Lendeborg's first taste of NBA basketball couldn't have gone much better.

The Golden State Warriors rookie delivered when it mattered most, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors to a 94-90 comeback victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2026 NBA Summer League championship game. For his performance, Lendeborg was named the NBA Summer League Championship Game MVP.

Golden State entered the fourth quarter trailing by 10 points before Lendeborg took over. The No. 11 overall pick scored seven of the Warriors' final 10 points, helping fuel the rally and secure the franchise's second Summer League championship.

The championship performance was the perfect ending to an impressive Summer League run. Over six games, Lendeborg averaged 14.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 48.4 percent from the field. His versatility was on display throughout the tournament, whether he was initiating offense, crashing the boards or making timely defensive plays.

Lendeborg arrived in Golden State with plenty of momentum after helping Michigan win the 2026 NCAA national championship. His strong Summer League showing only reinforced why the Warriors made him the 11th overall selection in the NBA Draft.

While Summer League is just the first step in a long NBA career, Lendeborg looked comfortable in Golden State's system and consistently made winning plays. If this performance is any indication, the Warriors may have found another versatile piece capable of contributing sooner rather than later.

Michigan men's basketball head coach Mike Boynton Jr. has made the first major addition to his coaching staff, hiring former Brown head coach Mike Martin as an assistant coach.

The difference isn't always talent—it's visibility.

Brands invest where they expect the greatest return. The University of Michigan has officially promoted Mike Boynton Jr. to head coach of its men's basketball program, selecting the veteran assistant to lead the Wolverines following one of the most successful stretches in school history.

Director of Athletics Warde Manuel announced Friday that Boynton has agreed to a two-year contract and will serve as the David and Meredith Kaplan Men's Basketball Head Coach.

Boynton enters his third season in Ann Arbor after helping Michigan compile a 64-13 record over the past two years. During that span, the Wolverines captured the 2025 Big Ten Tournament championship, won the 2026 Big Ten regular-season title, and secured the program's second NCAA national championship.

"Mike is a veteran assistant with strong head coaching experience and a clear understanding of the standard we expect at Michigan," Manuel said. "Over the past two seasons, he has been an invaluable member of our staff, bringing stability, leadership and perspective during an important period of success."

University President Domenico Grasso also praised Boynton's leadership, highlighting his integrity and commitment to student-athlete development while expressing confidence that he will continue Michigan's tradition of excellence.

Boynton said he is grateful for the opportunity to lead the program and intends to build upon the championship culture established in Ann Arbor.

Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold received favorable news Friday after a Florida judge ruled that he will not be required to wear an ankle monitor while released on bond, clearing the way for him to continue pursuing NFL opportunities as his criminal case proceeds.

Arnold, who was arrested on June 24 in connection with an alleged kidnapping and robbery case near Tampa, Florida, appeared virtually before the Florida 13th Judicial Circuit Court. The judge reaffirmed that Arnold may travel for court appearances, meetings with his attorneys, and work-related activities without wearing an ankle monitor.

During the hearing, Arnold's agent, Nicole Lynn, told the court that four NFL teams expressed interest in the 23-year-old defensive back within the first 24 hours of his release. According to Lynn, the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, and New York Jets have all shown interest in the former first-round pick.

Lynn also revealed that Arnold worked out for the Houston Texans on Thursday and is scheduled to participate in another workout with an NFL team next week. She argued that an ankle monitor could negatively affect those opportunities, a position the court ultimately accepted.

Detroit Pistons Schedule

The Detroit Pistons enter Summer League with an opportunity to evaluate their young roster while integrating new additions into the organization.

Detroit's four guaranteed games include:

• July 9: Philadelphia 76ers
• July 12: Cleveland Cavaliers
• July 13: New York Knicks
• July 15: Phoenix Suns

Following preliminary play, each team will compete in either the semifinal round or a consolation game based on tournament standings.

Tournament Format

Every NBA team will play four preliminary games between July 9 and July 16.

After those games conclude:

• The top four teams advance to the Summer League semifinals.
• The remaining 26 teams will each play one consolation game.

The 2026 NBA Summer League Championship will be played on Sunday, July 19, at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Summer League Tiebreakers

If two teams finish with identical records, the NBA will determine semifinal participants using the following tiebreakers:

1. Head-to-head result
2. Point differential
3. Total points scored
4. Random drawing

If three or more teams finish tied, the league skips head-to-head results and begins with point differential before applying the remaining tiebreakers.

Experimental Rules Return

Summer League continues to serve as the NBA's testing ground for new rules and technology.

One Free Throw Rule

Except during the final two minutes of regulation and overtime, players shoot one free throw worth the total value of the foul.

• Technical foul or and-one: 1 point
• Standard shooting foul: 2 points
• Three-point shooting foul: 3 points

The rule is designed to improve game flow while reducing unnecessary stoppages.

Connected Basketball Technology

The NBA will also continue testing connected basketballs equipped with embedded sensors.

The Detroit Lions enter the 2026 season with expectations that extend far beyond making the playoffs. After establishing themselves as one of the NFC's top contenders in recent years, the Lions have assembled a roster capable of competing for a Super Bowl. Whether they can reach that goal, however, may depend on how well they balance one of the league's most explosive offenses with a defense facing significant questions.

Detroit's biggest strength is unmistakable—its offensive playmakers.

The Lions return one of the NFL's most dynamic groups, led by running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and tight end Sam LaPorta. Collectively, they have helped Detroit finish among the NFL's top five in both total offensive yards and touchdowns during each of the past four seasons.

Individually, their production has been equally impressive. Gibbs became the first player in NFL history to record at least 1,200 rushing yards, 50 receptions, and 11 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons. New Dallas Mavericks head coach Dusty May is stepping into his first NBA coaching role with confidence, and much of that optimism centers on one player: reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg.

During his first media availability in Dallas, May spoke highly of Flagg, praising not only his talent but also the qualities that separate him from many young stars.

"A superstar who plays hard, who cares about his teammates, and who is incredibly unselfish—those things aren't that common," May said.

For May, Flagg represents more than just an elite player. He sees him as the type of competitor who can shape a winning culture.

May's admiration for Flagg began years before either arrived in the NBA. While coaching at Florida Atlantic, he watched Flagg emerge as one of the nation's top high school prospects. According to Opendorse's 2026 annual report, total NIL-related spending—including school revenue-sharing payments, third-party endorsement deals, paid social media partnerships, and licensed merchandise—is projected to reach $4.5 billion this year. The report also estimates that athletes at the average Power Four institution will collectively receive approximately $34.8 million through those combined revenue streams.

The evolution of NIL has extended well beyond traditional endorsement opportunities.
