The NBA's premier offseason showcase returns to Las Vegas from July 9–19, as all 30 NBA franchises converge at Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion for the 2026 NBA 2K26 Summer League. Featuring 76 games over 11 days, the event gives basketball fans an early look at the league's newest draft picks, second-year players, G League standouts, and free agents competing to earn NBA opportunities.

What began as a developmental event has evolved into one of the NBA calendar's premier summer attractions. For front offices, coaches, scouts, and fans alike, Summer League serves as the first glimpse into the NBA's future.

Opening Day Features Seven Exciting Matchups

The action tips off on Thursday, July 9, with a full slate of games featuring several of the NBA's newest young stars.

Opening day schedule:

• Minnesota Timberwolves vs. New Orleans Pelicans — 3:30 p.m. ET
• San Antonio Spurs vs. Atlanta Hawks — 4:30 p.m. ET
• Detroit Pistons vs. Philadelphia 76ers — 5:30 p.m. ET
• Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks — 7:00 p.m. ET
• Charlotte Hornets vs. Orlando Magic — 7:30 p.m. ET
• Utah Jazz vs. Washington Wizards — 9:00 p.m. ET
• Sacramento Kings vs. LA Clippers — 11:00 p.m. ET

Throughout the week, fans will have the opportunity to watch many of the league's top rookies and promising young players begin their professional careers on one of basketball's biggest developmental stages.

Detroit Pistons Schedule

The Detroit Pistons enter Summer League with an opportunity to evaluate their young roster while integrating new additions into the organization.

Detroit's four guaranteed games include:

• July 9: Philadelphia 76ers
• July 12: Cleveland Cavaliers
• July 13: New York Knicks
• July 15: Phoenix Suns

Following preliminary play, each team will compete in either the semifinal round or a consolation game based on tournament standings.

Tournament Format

Every NBA team will play four preliminary games between July 9 and July 16.

After those games conclude:

• The top four teams advance to the Summer League semifinals.
• The remaining 26 teams will each play one consolation game.

The 2026 NBA Summer League Championship will be played on Sunday, July 19, at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Summer League Tiebreakers

If two teams finish with identical records, the NBA will determine semifinal participants using the following tiebreakers:

1. Head-to-head result
2. Point differential
3. Total points scored
4. Random drawing

If three or more teams finish tied, the league skips head-to-head results and begins with point differential before applying the remaining tiebreakers.

Experimental Rules Return

Summer League continues to serve as the NBA's testing ground for new rules and technology.

One Free Throw Rule

Except during the final two minutes of regulation and overtime, players shoot one free throw worth the total value of the foul.

• Technical foul or and-one: 1 point
• Standard shooting foul: 2 points
• Three-point shooting foul: 3 points

The rule is designed to improve game flow while reducing unnecessary stoppages.

Connected Basketball Technology

The NBA will also continue testing connected basketballs equipped with embedded sensors.

The technology collects real-time data to assist officials with out-of-bounds calls and other reviewable plays while helping the league evaluate future officiating enhancements.

Why Summer League Matters

Summer League has become much more than a collection of exhibition games.
