Yann Kamagate has the size that immediately draws attention, but his development as a complete player is what makes him one of the more intriguing young big men in high school basketball.

The 7-foot, 230-pound center from St. Francis High School in La Cañada Flintridge, California, has established himself as a player with significant long-term potential. His combination of length, mobility, timing, and physical presence allows him to influence the game on both ends of the floor.

Kamagate is especially effective around the basket. He runs the floor well, finishes above the rim, rebounds in traffic, and gives his team a dependable interior target. Defensively, he uses his size and reach to protect the paint, challenge shots, and force opponents to reconsider attacking the rim.

His activity level is another important part of his game. Kamagate does not rely on standing near the basket and waiting for opportunities. He moves with purpose, works to establish position, competes for second-chance possessions, and stays engaged defensively.

Playing with Compton Magic on the adidas 3SSB circuit has also given him the opportunity to compete against strong national competition. Those experiences have helped him continue to improve his footwork, physicality, positioning, and decision-making.

There is still room for growth offensively, which is expected for a young center continuing to develop. Expanding his touch away from the basket, becoming more comfortable as a passer, and improving his overall post technique will be important areas to watch. Even so, his current impact as a rim runner, rebounder, finisher, and shot blocker already gives him considerable value.

College programs are drawn to big men who can defend, run the floor, rebound, and finish efficiently. Kamagate brings each of those qualities while still having plenty of time to develop the rest of his game.

His size may be the first thing people notice, but his mobility, effort, and defensive presence are what give him a chance to become a high-level frontcourt prospect. As his skill set continues to expand, Kamagate will remain a player worth following closely.
