LeBron James has decided he’s not done playing yet.
After thinking about retiring after the 2025-26 season, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer announced he will keep playing with the Philadelphia 76ers. He’ll make history by playing in his 24th NBA season, the most ever.
James shared his decision in several social media posts. He explained that he wasn’t motivated by money or comfort, but by one last chance to compete for another NBA championship.
"This is my last decision. I'm not going for money. I'm not going for family... I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship," James wrote.
The four-time NBA champion has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option. This deal helps Philadelphia keep financial flexibility while adding one of the best players in league history.
James will join a 76ers team led by Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and new addition Jaylen Brown. With him, Philadelphia is now seen as one of the top contenders for the 2027 NBA championship.
At 41, James is still beating expectations. Last season, he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds, and earned his 22nd straight All-Star selection. He’s still one of the league’s top players after more than 20 years.
